Early life of Munawar Faruqui
On January 28, 1992, Faruqui was born in Junagadh, Gujarat, into a Muslim Gujarati family. His father became deeply indebted after losing the money. He dropped out of school after the fifth class because of financial difficulties. To make ends meet, he began working. While still a little child, he worked in a gift shop. Later, he helped his mother and grandma make and sell chaklis and samosas. At the age of 14, his mother committed suicide. At his aunt’s request, he moved to Mumbai following the death of his mother. In Mumbai, he began taking on odd occupations. His father suffered from paralysis and died in 2020.
Personal life of Munawar Faruqui
Faruqui wed Jasmine in 2017, although the couple divorced in 2022. The son of the former spouse is five years old. He has been dating Nazila Sitaishi, a social media personality, since December 2021. His former partner Ayesha Khan accused him of having many relationships and of two-timing both her and Sitaishi on Bigg Boss. Then, on December 18, 2023, Sitaishi called him out on Instagram Live and ended their relationship, claiming he had cheated. He was called a womaniser by both the Bigg Boss competitors and the audience.
Munawar Faruqui controversy
Munawar Faruqui was travelling and doing comedic shows in several Indian cities. He gave a stand-up performance at Munro Cafe in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on January 1, 2021. However, Eklavya Singh Gaur, the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur, interrupted, accusing him of making offensive jokes against Hindu deities and Indian Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah. In the middle of doing a comedic performance, he was taken into custody by the Madhya Pradesh Police on January 2, citing his detention as a result of India’s hate speech laws. Despite the lack of proof against Munawar, the police nevertheless detained him.
To demonstrate support for Faruqui, who is imprisoned, a group of South Asian American stand-up comedians announced on February 2, 2021, that they would stage a virtual comedy concert on February 6, 2021. His arrest was sharply criticised for violating a comedian’s precisely to free speech. Later on, the Indian Supreme Court granted him bail. He spent time behind bars for 37 days.
